News from David Daisy

Dear Friends:

Greetings from Daisy Farms. We are a small fruits nursery, located in Cass County, in Southwestern Michigan, between Dowagiac and Sister Lakes.

It's 5:30 AM in early November, and it is really tempting to just shut off my alarm, but this is the time of the year when we need to get plants out of the ground and into cold storage at 28 degrees F. Then they can be sorted and graded indoors during the coming cold winter days. The plants we have harvested this year are really top quality.

As you look down the plant list you will notice a few new varieties of strawberries. It has been our experience that the flavor of the berries may change with the change of soil types and growing methods. Full season production of strawberries was experimented with this growing season. It was interesting and shows promise.

We continue to need God's guidance as we do business and in everyday life choices. With the passing of my mother in February of 2009 it lets us know how short life is. The years come much more quickly as I also get older, and hopefully we learn from lifes experiences. But for those of you who may have talked to her or met her over the years, she is now in a better place, and has no book work to do. I'm sure that has made her happy. Over the years,  both of my parents helped instill values and good work ethics in their children, and by God's grace they will never leave us. Frances was 89 at her passing, and is very much missed.

I believe there is a future with the products that you and I produce. We definitely need a better diet for all Americans, and the trends seem to indicate that many of  the people are willing to pay more if it's fresh and flavorful.

Soil rich in humus and nutrients will give you these qualities. I'm a firm believer in enriching your soil first. If you have questions, we will try to help you, or get you to someone that may have the answers you need.

Our product line continues to change as new varieties are developed by various breeding programs. Some varieties are no longer available or are sold out. Please check the plant list or call before ordering.

For those of you who place your orders via the internet, please include your telephone number so our customer service department can contact  you personally if there is any question regarding your order.

We look forward to serving you this year as in the past.

Best Wishes for a successful and safe 2010 growing season.

Sincerely,   David Daisy
